For pop up tents and quick pitch tents, there is a strong case for buying from a store so that you can have the mechanism demonstrated to you before you buy. With the major manufacturers, though, there is no need to worry that the tent will not work properly, and it will be covered by a warranty in any case. Once you have bought the tent, make sure that you do a few practice runs before you take the tent on a camping trip. It always takes a few tries to really get used to pop up tents.
